Technical Information Standards & Terminology Lead
We're looking for a passionate and detail-orientated Technical Information Standards & Terminology Lead to join our expanding Team in Warwick.
In this pivotal role, you'll be responsible for setting and maintaining high standards in technical writing and terminology for technical end-user information. Success in this role means ensuring clarity, consistency, and accuracy across all technical information deliverables, including owners' manuals and workshop documentation. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the end-user experience and upholding the company’s reputation for excellence in technical communication
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and enforce writing standards for technical writers and illustrators, including Simplified Technical English and DITA compliance.
- Implement and manage content reuse strategies and structured XML authoring frameworks to promote the best end-user experience.
- Advise on, help create, and manage admonitions libraries, terminology libraries, templates, and other critical content.
- Train and advise team members on technical writing standards, Simplified Technical English, grammar, and best practices.
- Serve as the liaison for all standards and terminology-related matters with customers and internal teams.
- Ensure all technical documentation meets industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Guide teams to produce high-quality work by setting clear expectations and providing constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate technical information standards seamlessly into product offerings.
- Apply a strategic and holistic perspective to integrate the broader vision and long-term goals of the company into all processes.
Person Specification:
- Expert level knowledge of English grammar and Simplified Technical English (STE).
- Proven experience in writing standards for technical information deliverables.
- Ability to write clear and concise technical content for end-users.
- Strong training and coaching / advisory skills.
- Excellent communication and liaison abilities.
- Engineering technical knowledge from the Transportation or Advanced Machinery industries.
- Previous experience producing technical information as a Senior Technical Author, Lead Author, Technical Trainer or Quality Control / Reviewer.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- IT literate, with an understanding of digital delivery and how best to deliver information to the end-user.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of what constitutes high-quality technical information and the ability to guide teams to achieve it.
- Knowledge of content reuse and structured XML authoring frameworks such as DITA and S1000D.
- ‘Big picture’ mindset, to ensure our overall deliverables meet customer standards and expectations.
