Technical Author - Operator & Workshop Manuals
We’re looking for a passionate, detail-oriented Technical Author - Operator & Workshop Manuals to join our expanding team in Warwick.
In this role, you’ll create and maintain high-quality digital operator and workshop manuals, transforming complex engineering and technical information into clear, accurate and user-focused content. You’ll work to established authoring guidelines and standards, producing consistent and reusable documentation that can support multiple brands across a global marketplace.
Main Responsibilities
Create and update operator and workshop manual content to a high standard.
Gather, collate and interpret technical and engineering information from a range of sources.
Communicate professionally with key internal teams and customer stakeholders, including vehicle engineering and brand personnel.
Use structured authoring tools and established guidelines to create clear, customer-focused technical publications.
Interpret technical specifications and simplify complex systems into structured, easy-to-understand operating, maintenance and repair information.
Utilise CAD data and relevant software tools to support the creation of technical content.
Create clear and concise graphic briefs for Technical Illustrators.
Manage vehicle validation workshops in collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure technical content is accurate and representative of the product.
Manage relevant projects and ensure documentation is delivered to agreed timescales.
Work effectively to tight deadlines while managing competing priorities.
Work independently and use your own initiative with minimal supervision.
What We’re Looking For
Experience in technical authoring, ideally producing operator manuals, workshop manuals or similar technical documentation.
Automotive experience would be desirable.
Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
Strong technical aptitude and the ability to understand complex vehicle systems and engineering information.
Strong research skills and the ability to identify and interpret the information required to complete a task.
Experience writing and adapting technical content for different target audiences.
Strong organisation skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise workload and deliver to tight deadlines.
A keen eye for detail and the ability to proofread technical documentation accurately.
A proactive approach to identifying areas for improvement and developing practical solutions.
Experience working with content management systems would be advantageous.
Knowledge of structured authoring and technical software tools such as XML editors, XMetaL, Altova, Vis Mockup, CATIA, Creo, Photoshop and Microsoft 365 would be advantageous.
An appropriate level of education or equivalent experience relevant to a technical authoring role.
